3 Tips For Men's Grooming

Gent's, it doesn't just take a fancy suit to look great (though it helps significantly) so we reached out to our good friend, and master barber, Andrew "Evil" Evilsizor to put together some essential grooming tips to have you looking your best, every day.

1. Keep Up With Your Haircut Every 2-3 Weeks

Arguably, one of the greatest feelings is walking out of that barbershop after a fresh cut. Just like putting on a suit, you walk with confidence because you feel good and you KNOW you look good. So, why do most of us wait a month or longer to get one? Lazy? Don't think to do it? Don't care? Money? Regardless, it's important to keep your hair maintained.

Not only does it make you feel good, but cutting your hair every 2-3 weeks will also help with:

  • Promoting Healthy Hair - without a healthy head of hair, you may lose growth and feel dry or frizzy. If the hair is damaged due to lack of maintenance from cutting, it may start to break and cause even more damage.
  • Growth - This may seem ass backwards (like eating more to lose weight) but trimming those ends will help significantly in new growth. Cutting away those damaged ends gives your hair a fresh start.
  • Styling - Cutting your hair will provide a fullness and texture, making it easier to style (keep reading for some important style tips)

2. Trim And Maintain That Beard

Beards don't come as easy as they look. They involve weekly upkeep by shaving, shaping, and trimming. This is just as important in completing the look as cutting your hair. Yes, it takes work guys, but it is a must (unless you're rocking the 5 O'clock shadow, which we hear the ladies love).

Here's a secret: BEARD OIL! (This stuff smells so good you will want to bathe in it.

Applying 1-2 drops of beard oil daily will help tame loose ends, provide healthier hair and fullness, avoid irritation and scratchiness, and just enough shine for the silky clean look. Be sure to use the oil on damp, clean hair.

Investing in a quality trimmer will also help the process. Use the trimmer to shape your beard if it's on the longer end, or shorten it for a tighter look. It is also important to shape it every few days by shaving the hairs under your neck and on your cheeks to create those beautiful beard lines (the trimmers are great for this as well, but feel free to use a straight blade razor if you're feeling like Sweeney Todd).

3. Style Your Hair

Where to start? A lot of this will depend on the length of your hair, style preference, or even what's on your schedule for the day, but here are the most important tips to keep in mind:

Products - With an abundance of styling products out there, it can be challenging to find the right one. Our two main reccomendations will be a product providing a matte finish or a product with shine.

If you're looking for something more natural, the matte finish is the way to go. This style can provide more flexibility throughout the day as it is easy to adjust and run your fingers through to attract that special someone. The natural look is perfect if you're on the go and keeping it casual for the day. Basically, look at any image of Brad Pitt for inspiration.

When it comes to a product with shine, you are pretty much locked in to that style for the day. Shine typically means a stronger hold. This style is perfect for the business man, or formal affair. Basically, John Travolta in Grease but with a more modern cut.

Blow Drying - When styling your hair, we always reccomend letting it air dry or soak in a microfiber towel for about 10 minutes before blow drying. When you do blow dry, be sure to use that thin nozzle attachment so that the air is more concentrated. This will also provide some distance between your hair and the end of the blow dryer keeping the heat a safe distance away.

Blow drying your hair before styling allows you to comb through and shape your hair, providing volume and an easier canvas for creating that gentlemanly look.

While there are several other tips we can think of, these are the ones we feel are most important to have you looking your best.
